History of Korfball Section of MAFCThe Korfball Section of MAFC (Athletics and Football Club of Budapest University of Technology and Economics - BUTE) was founded in October, 1993 by Gábor Gődény, who was at the 2nd year of his studies as a future transport engineer. Before his studies at BUTE he played korfball in Debrecen. Korfball at BUTE was admitted by the Leisure Sports Section of MAFC sport club. In the beginning, most players were also students of BUTE. MAFC finished its` first season on the 6th place in the Hungarian Championships. After years of continuous improvement, the team finished first in the preliminary round and, for the first time in the history of Hungarian korfball, managed to seize the title by beating 4 times champion Gödöllő in the play-off. Since that year, MAFC always finished 1st in the Hungarian Championship. The team also achieved a good reputation abroad by finishing 6th (`97) and 4th (`98) at the Europa Cup. So far, no other Hungarian team could exceed this performance. In the meanwhile, after serious organization MAFC started another team in the Hungarian Championship from 1997-98. The new team finished 4th in the season 1999-2000. The team`s success is based on the qualities of the players, who proved their talent also in the senior, U23 and University National teams of Hungary. 2000 |
